Police on Sunday shot a man who was messing with a gun in Helsinki center area.

The incident took place at about 11:00 am when police tried to capture the gun from the person.

The man was in a confused state and did not want to give away the gun, according to police and eyewitnesses. 

The police shot the man to calm the situation. The man is not in danger but he was brought to hospital nonetheless. 

The incident happened in a popular fairway, Baana. The motive  the incident and identity of the man could not be known immediately.

The case is being investigated as violent opposition to the officer and investigated the possession of a harmful object.
