Photo - Lehtikuva The popularity of the President Sauli Niinistö has increased significantly among the Finnish people this year compared to his popularity the previous year, said a survey report conducted by a Finnish language newspaper Iltalehti.
The economic and research department of the newspaper also handed a certificate to the president including the popularity report on occasion of his 65th birthday observed in Jyväskylä on Saturday.
The popularity level of the president among the people for his performance as president reached at 8.18 out of 10, which was based on the opinion polls conducted among more than a thousand adult citizens of the country, said the report.
The study also said that people from different strata participated in the polls where the high income group, low income group and the supporters of the Left Parties and Social Democracy Party marked him high for his performance.
The report also said that the popularity of the president was little bit lower in the previous survey conducted last year.
Meanwhile, the University of Jyväskylä on Saturday conferred honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree to President Sauli Niinistö and 14 other distinguished personalities of the country for their contribution in respective disciplines.
The department of Physical Science of the university conferred the PhD at the convocation held on Saturday which was also the birthday of the President.
President Niinisto has been selected for his previous role as the chairman of the Finnish Football Federation. He pointed out enormous values of the physical activities among the children and youths.
Children Ombudsman Maria Kaisa Aula, Markuu Jokinen, Professor Keijo Kajantie, Lippo kokkola, Armi Mikkola, SOK chief executive officer Kuisma Niemelä are among others conferred PhD by the University of Jyväskylä this year.
The Finland President had earlier been conferred PhD by a number of universities at home and abroad.
The University of Tampere and the University of Turku in Finland and the University of ELTE in Hungary are among the other universities that conferred honorary PhD to the president.
