The Helsinki District Court on Friday granted bail to Esa Laiho, who was arrested on Tuesday on charge of working as a physician without academic qualification.

The court in an order said there was no reason behind keeping him arrested for the allegation of causing the deaths of three patients.

Kari Uoti, the legal advisor of Laiho, welcomed the decision of the court.

"Valvira has conducted same investigations on the cases and have made a report in this regard,” said the legal advisor, adding that it was detected that the activities of Laiho did not lead to serious injuries, harm or death.

Laiho who had been in custody as preliminary investigations were being carried out, is suspected of causing the deaths of three patients.

The alleged fake doctor, who has been discharging the duties of a physician for a decade in the country without having academic qualifications, reportedly earned more than €800,000 a year.

He was earlier also deported from the USA for fraud, said the police. The fraudulence of the fake physician was disclosed in an investigative report by a Finnish language tabloid in 2011. Since then, police had been running extensive inquiry to keep him out of practice.

Since 2001, he has been working as trainee doctor and doctor in different district hospitals in Finland. From 2005, he has worked as an independent and licensed physician.

Investigators suspect that Laiho caused the deaths of three patients. Two cases happened in Helsinki in 2011 and one in Lahti in 2006, while five other similar cases are currently being investigated.
