The Baltic Sea beaches of Finland are more littered compared to other countries, according to a recently published report.

According to the report by Pidä Saaristo Siistinä (For a Cleaner Archipelago), a Finnish non-profit organisation active in environment protection, the beaches in Finland were found to be more littered compared to Sweden, Estonia and Latvia.

The study was compiled over a two year period, observing 23 beaches in those countries.

According to the report, most of the garbage lay in the outskirts of major towns and cities.

One of the biggest waste collections filled 18 waste bags that included construction garbage of blasted rocks and concrete in Pihlajasaari of Helsinki.

The organization implicated the growing trend of take-away culture and increased use of plastic raw material as some of the reasons for the increased pollution.
