Albania will support amendments to the Helsinki Convention on cross-border cooperation on environment, Albanian Environment Minister Lefter Koka said here Tuesday.

The ministry finished preparing a draft law in December 2013 on "Ratification of Amendments to Helsinki Convention," which would help facilitate the cross-border cooperation, Koka said in a meeting with Sven Alkalaj, executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, according to government news agency ATA.

The Helsinki Convention is an international convention encompassing various measures for the prevention and elimination of pollution in the Baltic Sea, such as the reduction of effects provoked by climate change and the creation of an institutional framework on reaching multilateral agreements about management of water resources.

The first convention entered into force in 1980, and a new one was signed in 1992 by Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania and other countries and organizations.
