Fri, 21 Feb, 2014 12:45:26 AM FTimes-STT Report, February 21 File Picture of former chief of Helsinki police drug unit Jari Aarnio. Photo – Lehtikuva. The Helsinki District Court ruled that the search conducted at the office of Petri Rainiala, a criminal inspector of Helsinki police, in connection with the Aarnio case was unjustified.
“The search at Pasila police department was unwarranted,” said the court in an observation last week.
Meanwhile, leading prosecutors Krista Soukola and Jukka Haavisto expressed their disappointment over the court ruling.
The search at the inspector’s office was conducted last December.
Rainiala, who is suspected for breaching of duty rules, was accused of maintaining telephone conversation with Aarnio’s wife regarding the progress of the investigation.
The prosecution believed that Rainiala hampered the investigation by guiding Aarnio’s wife.
Jari Aarnio, the detained former chief of the Helsinki police drug unit, has been in custody since November 2013 on various charges including bribery, money laundering and abusing position.
