The detained former chief of Helsinki police drug unit, Jari Aarnio, is now suspected of leaking the identity of an undercover police.

The alleged criminal act was discussed in Helsinki District Court on Thursday.

In addition, Aarnio is also suspected of leaking the identity of a police informant.

Two other policemen are also suspected in connection with similar activities.

Jukka Haavisto, the head of investigation team, however, did not disclose that to whom the information was leaked.

Haavisto termed the issue of leaking the identity of the police personnel and the informant as very serious.

The leak is said to have taken place in early 2009, but the suspicion became a concern during the recent investigations surrounding Aarnio.

The former chief of the Helsinki police drug unit has been in custody since November 2013 on various charges including bribery, money laundering and abuse of position.
