A working group has proposed to reduce the number of notary public units of the country from the existing 41 to 25.

The services in areas falling under the disbanded units will be offered through common service points.

The working group, led by Eastern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency, set up the organization of the notary public units based on the population and the number of personal matters in need of execution.

"The 2014 customer service project aims to ensure that along with the notary public, also other state-based public authorities customer services will be
offered jointly," said Henna Virkkunen, minister of public administration and local government in a release.

The Ministry of Finance is to send the final report for consultation this month.
