The National Police Board said Wikipedia had been collecting money in the country without authorisation.
The board noted that Wikipedia’s appeal for donation on its online notice met the definition of fundraising.
It observed that Wikipedia should have applied for a permit.
The police appealed to Wikipedia in January to clarify the matter.
Wikipedia’s Finnish support association Suomen Wikimedia stated at that time that they had only translated US based Wikimedia Foundation’s fundraising advertisement.
The request was said to have been forwarded to the foundation in California.
The police, however, said they were not going to investigate the issue, reported Yle.
