The Minister of Public Administration and Local Government Henna Virkkunen on Thursday decided to conduct a survey that will look into the issue of municipal allocation in Vaasa region.

The inquiry will be conducted in Isokyrö, Körsnäs, Laihia, Maalahti and Mustasaari municipalities of Vöyri and Kaksinen, Kristiinankaupunki and municipalities between Närpiö and Vaasa.

The municipal allocation inquiry will be led by Jan-Erik Enestam, Suomen ruotsalainen kansanpuolue (Swedish People's Party of Finland) former Minister who has held different cabinet posts and Ossi Repo, the former mayor of Kemi.

The task of the two is to develop an overview whose rationale will provide basis for evaluating the suitability of combining ten municipalities into one or combining some of municipalities in one or combining them into several municipalities.

Jan-Erik Enestam and Ossi Repo will also be provided with opportunity to familiarise themselves with the economic situations in those municipalities.

The inquiry into municipal allocation in the region starts in April and is expected to be finalised latest by the end of the year.
