Schulz, during his visit to Helsinki, made the remark while exchanging views with the Speaker of Finnish parliament Eero Heinäluoma.
He pointed out that EU-Russia relationship has worsened after the recent events in Crimea and that Finland was the right country because it had historically had working relations with Russia.
Nevertheless, he also noted that common interests that might improve ties EU and Russia should be taken into account.
