During January-February, population increased by 2,500, which is 300 fewer than what was stated in the preliminary data for the corresponding period of the year before.
The rise was propelled by migrators with the number of immigrants surpassing that of emigrants by 2,000. A total of 4,200 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 2,200 persons emigrated out of Finland.
The number of immigrants was 650 lower and that of emigrants 50 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 1,050 of the immigrants and 1,550 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 500, the data said. The number of deaths was 8,600, which is 500 lower than one year earlier.
