The prosecution was adamant that the attack was postponed because the accused wanted to prepare it carefully.
Both the suspects denied the charges.
The woman admitted to having discussed the matter with the man, but, she said, the real intention of the discussion was to get some kind of human contact.
The rector of University of Helsinki, Jukka Kola was shocked by the planned attack but said he was relieved that it was prevented.

The university is planning to review its security structure on receiving more details regarding the planned attack.
According to preliminary investigations, the woman wanted to have revenge on people who had been oppressive to her.
She is reported to have said that she wanted to carry out the attack because the state had prevented her from bringing the oppressors to justice.
The university was thus a target because it is a place where humanists study. The woman is said to have expressed hatred towards humanists as they picture themselves as experts in social affairs.
The male suspect is said to have experienced bullying during primary and vocational schooling.
According to preliminary investigations, the man wanted to show what bullying could at worst lead to.
