According to the Ukrainian embassy, President Petro Poroshenko confirmed the appointment on Wednesday.
Ukraine has not had an ambassador in Finland since October 2012.
Olefirov is a career diplomat who has been at the service of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 16 years, according to Ukraine’s foreign ministry website.
Two years ago, Olefirov was appointed Ukraine’s deputy minister for foreign affairs. He has also worked in the US and Croatia in the past.
According to Serhiy Vasylenko, chargé d'affaires at the Ukrainian embassy, it is still not known when the new ambassador will assume his office in Helsinki.
