The Finnish Defence Forces is keen to hold on to its aim of significantly increasing the number of military refresher training.

The Defence Forces plans to organise refresher training for 18,000 reservists next year while this year the figure will remain at 6,000.

The addition implies that the number of refresher training courses will go back to the 2010 level after a couple of years of collapse.

According to the army cadre, the attainment of the target is dependent on sufficient appropriations for the army from the state coffers.

Pressure to make cuts led to the decline in the number of refresher training courses, but now the tables have been turned through the reform of the Armed Forces.

Lieutenant Colonel Jari Enberg from the Armed Forces said the aim is to increase the number of refresher training capabilities of the Defence Forces to maintain a sufficient level.

According to Enberg, the number of combat-efficient wartime forces will at the same time is to drop by a hundred thousand to 230,000.

The Defence Forces will not only increase the refresher courses but also increase the Air Force flight hours and servicemen shooting and battle drills.
