The Defence Forces may receive more arms procurement funds in the next few years.

The parliamentary working group looking into the matter has proposed additional 50 million euros for purchase of defence equipment in 2016, reported two Finnish language newspapers, Aamulehti and Kaleva.

The Vihreä Liito (Left Alliance) does not support the proposal. Similarly, the Vihreä Liitto (Green League) proposes that the strength of combat-efficient wartime forces be cut.

Next year’s budget for acquisition of military equipment is nearly 447 million euros. In addition, the army will get another 50 million euros from other budget allocations to bring the amount to 500 million euros.

The working group will release its report on Wednesday.
