A group of Kurds are staging a hunger strike in Turku, a southern city of Finland, to appeal for attention on the "predicament" of Kurdish people in the Middle East.

The three-day hunger strike, which started on Sunday, was initiated by seven Kurdish immigrants living in Turku, said Finnish national broadcaster YLE on Monday.

It is because of the war that wreaked havoc in Syrian Kurdistan that they launched the hunger strike, one of the hunger protesters told YLE.

The demonstrators called on Finland and other Western countries to support the Kurds who are fighting against the "Islamic State" militants in northern Syria.

The demonstration in Finland is reported to be part of a global campaign launched by the overseas Kurds to call on national governments to support the beleaguered Kurds in Syria.

Kurds have protested and staged hunger strikes in several other countries including the United States, Britain, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus since August this year.
