An entrepreneur who acted as an intermediary for Russian berry pickers was on Thursday fined by the Kymenlaakso District Court.

Furthermore, the entrepreneur was ordered to forfeit 34,000 euros earned as through the activities.

The entrepreneur was also ordered to pay over 2,000 euros to the berry pickers.

According to the court, the entrepreneur acted against the law, when the entrepreneur demanded payment from the berry pickers in order to dispatch them to work in berry farms in Eastern Finland.

The incident took place between 2012 and 2013.

The entrepreneur admitted to have raised money from the employees saying it had been for the organisational costs related to the berry pickers’ arrival in the country.

Aki Eriksson, a lawyer at the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland, termed the incident rare.
