President, PM condemn Copenhagen attack

The police on Sunday strengthened security measures at certain places in the capital city of Helsinki following the attack in Copenhagen on Saturday, reported News Agency STT.
 
National Police Commissioner Mikko Paatero confirmed strengthening security measures at certain places.
 
The Finnish security police Supo also investigated whether the Danish shooting had any connection in the country. According to Supo, no such indication was found as on Sunday.

The law enforcing agencies tightened security measures in various places related to the Jewish community, reported Yle, adding that the potential targets also include so-called soft spots, like shopping centres and traffic bottlenecks.
 
Meanwhile, Finland condemned the heinous attack on the seminar in Copenhagen on Saturday.
 
News Agency Xinhua add: President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Alexander Stubb on Sunday denounced the shootings in Copenhagen over the weekend, which killed two civilians and injured five policemen.
 
"Copenhagen events have shocked all of us. Finland strongly condemns terrorism and attacks on freedom of expression," Niinistö said in a statement published by the presidential office.

The President has also sent a letter of condolence to Denmark to mourn the victims who died in the attacks.
 
Prime Minister Alexander Stubb also condemned the attacks. "Defending our open and tolerant society based on trust is our common task every single day," he said.
 
The first attack occurred Saturday afternoon during a debate at the cultural centre Krudttoenden, where a man was killed and three police officers were wounded.
 
The second shooting took place late Saturday night near Copenhagen's Norreport Station, where a young Jew was shot dead and two police officers were shot in the arm and leg.
