Pekka Perä, the CEO of nickel mining company Talvivaara was on Wednesday charged with impairment of environment, confirmed the District Court of Kainuu.
Perä was sued by the Kainuu ELY Centre for pumping out mining generated waste to Kuusilampi quarries during the period between end of December, 2013 and the beginning of January 2014.
Perä maintained his innocence during the pre-trial investigations.
In autumn, Perä and three other Talvivaara officials were charged with aggravated impairment of the environment. All four had denied the allegations during the pre-trial investigations.
