The police fined three environmental activists who on Saturday trespassed into a site in Pyhäjoki where a nuclear power plant is planned to be constructed.
 
The police handed the three fines for insubordination.
 
At the moment there is logging work going on in the Hanhikivenniemi area in Pyhäjoki.
 
The three activists opposed to the nuclear plant chained themselves to the work machinery.
 
According to a statement from the activists group, the work at the site was halted for about six hours.
 
The police received information about the protest at about five o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday.
 
The police detained the three to confirm their identity. They were released before turn of the day.
 
Fennovoima is set to build the nuclear power plant at Hanhikivenniemi. The company is scheduled to submit an application for the construction licence at the end of the year.
 
Recently, the company informed that it had signed a contract to fence the site of the envisaged nuclear power plant.
