A Finnish military observer was wounded on Friday morning along the Syria-Israel border following a rebel attack.

The Finnish soldier was slightly injured during the attack which took place at 9:05 am, said the Finnish Defence Forces.

The Finnish soldier was on his way to a monitoring station when the rebels fired from the Syrian side.

Some of the munitions used exploded in the air causing the fragment to inflict injury on the soldier's back, neck and calves.

The attack, according to an assessment, was not directed to the UN observes and was a result of a battle between the rebels themselves.

The Finnish observer was examined by a doctor and injuries were deemed minor.

However, the soldier was referred to a hospital for further examination. The relatives of the injured soldier have been briefed about the incident.
