FTimes-STT Report, May 29

An incident in the Hamina reserve officer school shooting range on Thursday resulted in the death of an officer candidate.

According to police, the victim was found around noon at the Lupinmäki shooting range dead of a gunshot wound.

The conscript had been missing when they counted the students, and so they started looking for him. The police do not suspect the shooting to be crime-related, and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

According to the Finnish Defence Forces, other people at the Lupinmäki shooting range at the time were not in any danger.

The range was being used for a course in basic shooting for reserve officers, and the shooting portion of the course ended just before noon.

Crisis aid was given to other firing range training participants immediately following the incident.
