Pertti Kurikka Nimipäivät bassist Sami Helle is considering running for the 2017 municipal elections. Helle spoke of his intentions to Radio Valo.
According to Helle, people with disabilities should seek candidates who know how things should be organized.
"I would like to remind everyone that disabled people know a lot about issues other than disabilities," says Helle who has Down syndrome.
Helle has been a member of Keskusta, the Centre party, for more than ten years. He says that the party has supported him throughout his political career.
If Helle is elected to Helsinki's city council, he will reportedly be the first disabled person in elected political office in Finland's history.
