Police are investigation the loss of more than 9000 IT-devices leased by the city of Espoo from external companies and used by city workers.

The total value of the missing equipment, which includes computers and printers, could be in the millions of euros.

"The city does not have knowledge or reason to suspect the city staff. Of course, the police are investigating everyone as usual," says Espoo's business manager Mauri Suuperko.

The problem was discovered when the penalties for unreturned rental equipment began piling up. Espoo informed the police of the situation last December.

According to information received so far by the city, there have been many deficiencies in the companies that leased the equipment. Suuperko could not discuss the deficiencies in more detail, as the pre-trial investigation has not yet been completed.
