Fire incidents in the country so far this year have claimed 35 lives.

According to preliminary statistics from the Finnish National Rescue Association-SPEK, 22 of the confirmed death cases are men while 7 are women. The gender of the victims has not been established in six cases.

The number deaths are 12 fewer compared to the same period last year.

According to SPEK, there is room for improvement in the Finn's fire fighting skills.

At least one fire is started in the country in which no attempt is made to contain its spread despite the presence of people and extinguishing appliances at the scene.

SPEK emphasised the importance of fire extinguishing skills during the summer time when people spend time in the summer cottages and move around in mobile homes and boats.
