Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Wednesday left the door open for Finland to present Finance Minister Alexander Stubb as a compromise candidate for Eurogroup presidency.

However, Sipilä said the matter has not been planned that far in the government and neither have talks taken place.

Financial Times reported that Stubb could be a compromise candidate for the chairmanship of Eurozone finance ministers.

"I do not know, could such a situation be born where a compromise candidate would be needed," Sipilä said.

According to Sipilä, the current president of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem as well as the Spanish Finance Minister Luis de Guindos who both visited Finland on Wednesday have announced their candidature for the post.

Stubb, however, earlier during the day refused to speculate whether he was interested in the post or not.
