FTimes – STT Report, June 18

Minister of Finance Alexander Stubb on Wednesday said a last minute solution may come up to continue the Greek loan arrangement.

Stubb made the comments after attending a meeting of the Parliamentary Grand Committee where he said he does not believe that Greece will separate itself from the euro.

The finance minister said from his 20-year experience in EU negotiations he is hopeful that a solution will be struck in the end.

According to Stubb, Finland is ready to do everything possible in order for Greece to cope with its debts. The premise, however, is conditional upon Greek stance to abide by its commitments and that Finland should not commit itself to additional obligations.

“Yes, it is still very much in Greece’s corner,” admitted Stubb.

Time is running out since the Greek loan programme is coming to an end this month.

The election of the Eurogroup chair will be postponed in July because of the situation in Greece.
