All new personal vehicles and vans will have to be equipped with an emergency call system from the start of 2018, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency-Trafi has announced.
The vehicles will be fitted with a pan-European eCall system enabled to call the nearest emergency centre.
The device also transmits the car information and the exact location of the crash site in case of an accident.

The system is estimated to reduce road fatalities by about five per cent, since help is dispatched at a faster rate to the precise location.
Emergency response centres are expected to put the device in use by November 2017.
According to Trafi, other forms of emergency call system already installed in some vehicles will still be maintained; however, Trafi has recommended that cars be equipped with the new system.
