At least seven people were reported to have died during the midsummer celebrations with three of the cases resulting from drowning.

A young man was found dead inside a hot tub on Midsummer Eve in Nivala, Northern Ostrobothnia.

On the night of the Midsummer Eve, a man drowned following a water scooter accident in Oulujärvi, Oulu.

Furthermore, an elderly woman was found dead in a detached house in Jväskylä ­­on the Midsummer Eve. The police are treating the death of the woman as murder. Two people were arrested in connection with the death.

A 36-year-old man was killed in an accident on the Midsummer Eve following an accident involving two cars.

In Kuopio, a 20-year-old man died inside a police van during the midsummer night. According to the Eastern Finland police department, the man was being taken to Kuopio police headquarters jail.

The man was found lifeless in the police van, when the road to the police station ended. Attempts to resuscitate the man proved futile.

Earlier on Thursday evening, a young man died in police jail in Jyväskylä.

One person drowned and four died in other accidents during the last year’s midsummer weekend.
