Finnish icebreaker Fennica with the help of authorities managed to steer clear of the Greenpeace activists at the US Portland harbour on early Friday morning Finnish time.
 
The icebreaker was in Portland for repair and it was set to continue with its journey to the coast of Alaska to assist the Shell oil company.
 
The Greenpeace activists blocked the icebreaker's route by dangling from the port's bridge. According to Greenpeace, a total of 26 activists took part in the blockade with half of them dangling from the bridge.
 
According to news agency AP, a judge had ordered Greenpeace USA to pay a 2,500 dollar fine for every hour it continues to block a Shell Arctic oil-drilling vessel from leaving the harbour in Portland.
 
According to the local media,t he protest eventually cost Greenpeace 17,500 dollars which is approximately 16,000 euros.
