At least nine candidates will vie for the post of the head of the National Police Board, a Finnish language daily, Savon Sanomat reported on Friday.
 
The Deputy Police Chief from Helsinki Police Department Ilkka Koskimäki, the National Bureau of Investigation’s Deputy Police Chief Tero Kurenmaa, Police Director at the Ministry of the Interior Sanna Heikinheimo and Timo Saarinen who is the Deputy Police Chief of the Western Uusimaa Police Department, among others, will be applying for the position.
 
The position falls vacant as Seppo Kolehmainen who has been the head of the National Police Board officially becomes the new national police commissioner on August 1.
 
According to Savon Sanomat, nine individuals had submitted their application on Friday.
 
All the applications were not necessarily signed in to the system, and for this reason, the final number of applicants will be verified later.
 
The position is expected to be filled by early October at the latest.
