The Prosecutor General Matti Nissinen has criticised legislative policy of the government and termed it irregular.

According to Nissinen, decisions on legislative policies are currently experiencing a severe mismatch.

In his view, the irregularity manifests, for instance, in the preparation of temporary amnesty on tax offences while on the other hand, it has been decided to send beer thieves to jail.

Nissinen expressed concern over the prosecutors' workload and said the piled up work at the prosecutor's offices will pose problems next year.

In practice, the backlog puts the cases in danger of growing old, and secondly, the due process is also in danger.

The Minister of Labour and Justice Jari Lindström, however, dismissed the Prosecutor General’s criticism.

Lindström in an email reply to news agency STT said the policy is clear and was prepared during the previous Justice Minister’s tenure.
