The Green party council on Sunday outlined the importance of the subject terming integration as very topical issue which must be addressed immediately.
“Asylum seekers should be given the right to work immediately upon their arrival in Finland. There should be an integration plan for all immigrants regardless of their social status,” said Inka Hopsu, the chair of the Green party council.
The Green party solutions to integration, besides the right to work, include the opportunity to open bank accounts for this purpose. All immigrants must also be guaranteed the right to learn sufficient Finnish or Swedish required for daily life as well as for work purposes.
Housing segregation should be avoided by ensuring that each immigrant also has a Finnish neighbour.
Currently, an asylum seeker is allowed to work in the country without a residence permit after three months of asylum application.
