The number of asylum seekers arriving in Tornio is not showing signs of decreasing.

A total of 340 new asylum seekers had arrived in the town by early evening Tuesday.

The recently established refugee centre in Tornio has managed to fast track activities, and according to the police, new arrivals have had to spend at most one night at the centre.

Authorities try to ensure that all the minorities arriving at the centre are sent to the refugee reception centre on the same day.

On Monday, 418 asylum seekers were registered at the Tornio refugee centre. The number so far accounts for the single largest group of arrivals to be registered at the centre in one day.

According to authorities, a new trend seems to have emerged where individual small groups arrive by taxi to the Haparanda and Tornio border from Stockholm.
