Several attempts to smuggle drugs into the Sukeva prison were made on the occasion of Christmas, reported the Finnish language daily Savon Sanomat.
According to the police, several such incidents took place within a short span of time before the Christmas.
Sukeva is a closed prison with about 170 male inmates.
The drugs were hidden inside Christmas foods, the Eastern-Finland Police Department told the Savon Sanomat.
According to the daily, the prison authorities discovered painkillers and a powder suspected to be narcotics, among other things.
The drugs were carried by visitors to the prison and some prisoners returning from holiday.
The police have recorded several drug-related crimes and drug-use offences.
