Speaking at the National Defence Union Security Policy Seminar in Helsinki, the minister said the maximum amount of education will be amended in the Conscription Act, while the amount of time needed to call up conscripts for refresher training will be shortened.
The current ceiling for refresher training, depending on the necessity, is 40 days, 75 days or 100 days.
Niinistö praised the Finnish conscript army in his speech.
He described the talk about a professional army as “generals’ nonsense.”
The minister in his speech emphasised that the core of the Finnish Defence Forces is formed by the conscript system and the country’s regional defence system.
