Parliament on Wednesday voted 106-42 in favour of allowing conversion of the status of registered same-sex couples to married ones.

The changes to the previously passed same-sex legislation also bring the recognition of newly registered partnerships to an end.

Concerning the legislation on recognition of a transgender, the clause which states that a person awaiting recognition of gender-switch should not be married or be in a registered relationship has been scrapped.

The changes will come into force the same time the gender-neutral legislation comes into force in March 2017.
