The incidents took place on Saturday in Lieksa.
According to the police, the 28-year-old man has no previous criminal records.
The police have interrogated the man, but no motive for the deeds has been made clear by Monday.
A bystander discovered a bloodied man who claimed to be a stabbing victim in an apartment stairwell on Saturday.
The police found the victim’s adult son in his apartment.
On Sunday, the police found the suspect’s mother dead in her apartment. Detective Chief Inspector Simo Hämäläinen said the apartment was searched because the police had doubts about the mother’s condition.
In both cases the suspect’s actions were very cruel and brutal, said the police.
A sharp weapon was used in both the attacks.
