Finland will send about 50 additional troops to Iraq to reinforce training cooperation ac-tivities.

At the same time, the country will extend the operation in which Kurdish Peshmerga troops are trained to fight against extremist organisation ISIS by one year.

Finland will also expand activities involving advisory training which take place behind the front lines.

Brigadier General Petri Hulkko said the battlefront is relatively stable.

According to Hulkko, the Finns are trained in detecting improvised explosives and their prevention.

Finland will at the same time continue with training activities in Erbil, northern Iraq.

The Finns will also provide first aid training behind the front line.

According to Hulkko, the security situation in the country has remained unchanged. However, the strength of ISIS has clearly weakened.

“ISIS no longer have the ability to move large troops like a year ago,” said Hulkko.
