FTimes – STT Report, Apr 6

An interior ministry committee has proposed amendments to the eligibility requirements for posts at the National Police Board.

One of the changes is that the most senior posts on the board would no longer require a law degree. A master’s degree from an institution of higher education would suffice. One exception, for example, would be the police lawyer’s office, which would continue to require a law degree.

The different definitions of familiarity in the draft are summarised as follows: familiarity with law enforcement, a task which require wide-ranging experience and a task which requires familiarity of the task.

The proposal has been sent out for consultation, which will end in early May. New legislation is due to come into force next year.
