The number of rapes reported since the beginning of the year is significantly higher than the corresponding period of the last year.
According to statistics from the Police College, 170 cases of rape were reported to police in January and February, which is 39 higher compared to the number of previous year during the stipulated period.
In the past, a clear majority of the suspects have been native Finns. However, the proportion of foreigners has risen. A year ago, over the January-February period, one in five rape suspects was a foreign citizen. This year, it is one in four.
