Rehula, Kulmuni, Kurvinen elected vice-chairs

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä has been re-elected the chairman of the ruling Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) unopposed for the next two-year term.

The party delegates at a council held in Seinäjoki on Saturday also elected the other office bearers for the next term.

Family and Social Services Minister Juha Rehula and lawmakers Katri Kulmuni and Antti Kurvinen have been elected as the vice chairmen.

Rehula bagged 1,575 votes, Kulmuni 1,317, and Kurvinen 891.

The other nominated candidates for vice chairman were Hanna Huttunen, Annina Ruottu, Anne Kalmari, and Hannakaisa Heikkinen.

The party also elected Annika Saarikko and Anu Vehviläinen as voluntary vice chairmen.

Meanwhile, Timo Laaninen, who had served as the party secretary since 2010, has resigned from the position.
