Three people including two children were killed and nine other injured on Saturday in two road accidents – one in Kymenlaakso in Southern Finland and the other at Kolari in Lapland.

The police said one person was killed and six others were wounded when two cars collided head on at Miehikkälä in Kymenlaakso at about 2.00pm.

According to the Rescue Department, the conditions of three of the injured are stated to be critical.

“It was a two-car head-on collision,” said the fire chief on duty, Simo Norema of the Kymenlaakso Rescue Department.

There were seven people in the cars – one carrying five and the other two.

The fire chief said there are both children and adults among the injured. The injured were taken to a hospital.

The police and the accident investigation commission will investigate the cause of the collision.

Meanwhile, two children were killed and three others injured when the cab of a lorry skidded of the road and fell into a roadside ditch on Saturday evening at Kolari in Western Lapland.

Details of the accident could not be known immediately.
