The Rovaniemi Appellate Court has sentenced two WinCapita investment club members to pay the income received from criminal activities to the state. According to the court, the men themselves did not commit a crime but rather benefited from the crimes of WinCapita founder Hannu Kailajärvi. The court sentenced the two men to pay more than 100,000 euros. The amount is slightly higher than the judgment of the district court. The Appellate Court considers that the loss of the income is not comparable to punishment. The WinCapita investment club was a pyramid scheme, enticing more and more people to invest. The Appellate Court sentenced the club’s founder Hannu Kailajärvi to five years in prison for aggravated fraud and illegal fundraising. The Supreme Court upheld the judgment.
