The incident happened on Laakavuorenkuja just after 12:30am after midnight.
A single shot with a handgun was fired outdoors said Inspector Kirsi Kanth, a senior investigating officer, to the news agency STT.
The police arrested one person immediately after the incident in this connection.
The police had not yet questioned him on Tuesday morning.
Kanth, however, refused to divulge whether the victim and the suspect, both Finnish, were known to each other, or what could be the possible motive for the killing.
The suspect was born in 1981.
“[The suspect] certainly has a criminal background,” Kanth said.
The case is being investigated as manslaughter.
The matter was first reported by a Finnish language tabloid, Ilta-Sanomat.
According to the newspaper report, several police patrols were dispatched to the scene.
