Wed, 20 Jul, 2016 12:02:41 AM FTimes – STT Report, Jul 20 File Photo AFP-Lehtikuva. The use of social media in parliamentary election campaigns has increased, according to a study report.
At the same time, the use of social media between the parties varies by region.
About half of the candidates in last year’s parliamentary elections had set up Twitter accounts, whereas four years ago, only one-fifth of the candidates had a social media presence.
The Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) and the Vihreä liitto (Green League) were the most active parties on Twitter.
The results come from an extensive study on the recent parliamentary elections published recently.
The role of Twitter was examined by Mari Marttila, Salla-Maaria Laaksonen, Arto Kekkonen, Mari Tuokko, and Matti Nelimarkka.
“Twitter is not a place where you meet John Doe but rather journalists and researchers. The difference compared to the American media landscape is big, because there the proportion of users is significantly higher,” Nelimarkka said.
