The police are suspecting the incident as arson which also caused a fire outbreak.
In addition, emergency rescue services provided crisis care to six persons. Three were evacuated due to smoke damage, and they were taken to temporary accommodations.
The fire started in a fourth-floor apartment at the intersection of Fleminginkatu and Franzeninkatu. When rescue services arrived at the scene, the whole fourth-floor apartment was ablaze. The apartment door was open, filling the top two floors of the five-storey building with smoke.
According to the rescue services, the third-floor apartment below the burnt apartment suffered water damage. Homeowners and other eyewitnesses reported that an explosion took place in the apartment, followed by the fire.
