Websites of the Bank of Finland and the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA) on Monday suffered a denial-of-service (DOS) attack causing both the sites to crash.
Bank of Finland IT Manager Petteri Vuolasto said the attack was carried out by redirecting so much traffic to the site that its servers became unable to function normally.
The situation became obvious very quickly, as the bank remains prepared for such situations.
This was the first DOS attack for both the bank and the FIN-FSA. It is not yet clear where the attack originated from.
The Bank of Finland’s IT unit is also responsible for the FIN-FSA website.
