Interior Minister Paula Risikko wants to expand opportunities for asylum seekers’ work experience, reported the Finnish language newspaper consortium Lännen Media.
According to Risikko, work experience could be arranged also outside the reception centres. This way, more interesting work could be offered when the asylum applications are being processed.
According to Risikko, the current legislation limits activities since the legislation applies to studies and work experience within the reception centres.
Risikko wants the legislation reviewed. The law specifies that an asylum seeker has to participate in the reception centre’s activities so that the centre’s funds do not plummet fast.
The interior minister is the chair of the immigration ministerial working group. She intends to take up the matter with the group in autumn.
